# What is a square wheel setup and how does it work?
## A square setup uses the same wheel and tire size on all four corners - delivering balanced handling, easier tire rotations, and consistent wear for FWD and AWD cars.
A square wheel setup involves a configuration where all four tires are the same size and all four wheels have the same diameter, width, and offset. This uniformity ensures that each wheel and tire is interchangeable, simplifying maintenance, rotations, and replacement.
The setup is most common in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive cars, where balanced traction at all four corners is essential. By having the same dimensions all around, a square setup provides predictable handling characteristics and is more cost-effective for tire rotations and replacements.
**How does it work?**
Because each corner shares the same wheel and tire spec, load distribution is even across all four contact patches. This maintains consistent grip levels front-to-rear and reduces tendencies toward understeer or oversteer - making it an ideal setup for FWD and AWD platforms.
