# How should I store wheels or tires if I’m not installing them right away?
## Storing your wheels and tires in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, heat, and chemicals is the best way to keep them in great condition until you are ready to install them. Tires in particular can degrade over time, so it is best to install them within a reasonable timeframe.
If you are not ready to install your new wheels or tires right away, proper storage is important to keep them in great condition until you are ready to mount them up. Here are some tips to make sure your wheels and tires stay in top shape while in storage.
**General storage tips**
Taking a few simple steps when storing your wheels and tires can go a long way in protecting your investment:
- Store your wheels and tires in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
- Avoid storing them near heat sources, motors, or generators as these can produce ozone that can degrade rubber over time
- Keep them away from chemicals, solvents, or fuels that could damage the finish or tire rubber
- Store them off the ground if possible to avoid moisture buildup
**Storing tires**
Tires are sensitive to environmental conditions, so proper storage is especially important:
- Store tires in a cool, dry, and dark environment to prevent the rubber from drying out or cracking
- Keep tires away from direct sunlight and UV exposure, as UV rays can degrade the rubber compound over time
- If storing tires for an extended period, consider placing them in airtight bags to minimize exposure to oxygen and ozone
- Unmounted tires can be stored upright or stacked flat. If stacking, avoid stacking too many on top of each other to prevent deformation
- Mounted tires should be stored upright to avoid flat spotting
**Storing wheels**
