# Are wheel spacers safe?
## Wheel spacers are safe when installed and maintained correctly.
Yes! Wheel spacers and adapters are safe when properly installed. While they do put a bit more demand on steering components like ball joints, tie rods, and wheel bearings, following a few simple guidelines will keep everything running smoothly.
**Tips for Safe Installation:**
- Always use high-quality spacers from a reputable brand.
- Never stack multiple spacers or adapters on top of each other.
- Use a torque wrench, not an impact gun, to avoid over-tightening or stripping threads.
- Make sure your lug nuts have at least 6 to 8 full threads of engagement.
- Never install wheels with inner lug nuts or studs sticking out past the face of the spacer.
